HELP US WELCOME CHEETO!

He's finally here! Help us get the word out! Cheeto, the Reticulated Giraffe, is finally home at
Fort Chiswell Animal Park!

Many of you know how long we have worked, waited, and hoped for this day. Cheeto is a dream come true for all of us here at Fort Chiswell Animal Park and it is your faithful support over the years that has made his arrival possible!

Cheeto became part of our animal family January 10, 2018. He is over a year old and has recently been weaned off his mother. He currently stands over 9 feet tall. Cheeto is getting used to his new home and enjoying plenty of alfalfa.

Over the past two seasons, you all submitted more than 20,000 name ideas for our baby giraffe. We've never had so much fun with a zoo contest—not only because of the great name ideas, but also because of the attached giraffe doodles and notes to the staff. It was a hard decision in the end, but the winning name of “Cheeto” was entered by James Gibson of Bluefield, West Virginia. We chose this name because it was creative,
kid-friendly, and he looks like a Cheeto!
Thank you James!

We also had another winner during 2017. Many of you will probably remember the plush giraffe give-away contest that was held in anticipation of Cheeto's arrival. Rylan Wasky of Radford, Virginia won the contest and her very own giraffe. She told us it's a girl and promised to come see Cheeto in the Spring.
Congrats Rylan!

We are still closed for the winter, but this is a great adjustment time for Cheeto. We look forward to seeing all of you soon and thank you for taking this journey with us. The REAL journey is just beginning and we hope you'll stay along for the ride. Here's to 2018! We'll see you in the Spring!
