​A DAY AT THE ZOO

Fort Chiswell Animal Park offers free parking, a picnic area, and snack bar.  You can purchase your tickets upon arrival (no reservation required) as well as cold drinks and snacks for your outing.  If you are looking for lots of animal interaction, make sure to include some "zoo chow" and peanuts in your purchase.  These treats will ensure your popularity with the animals and help you capture some amazing photos!    

From the admissions area, you'll enter the walk-through Petting Zoo which features a variety of smaller animals that eagerly await your food and attention.  You'll have the opportunity to enjoy the fallow deer, alpacas, llamas, and pygmy goats.  The zoo's monkeys and colorful birds are on exhibit in this area as the weather permits.  The Petting Zoo is self-guided and you can enjoy it at your leisure both before and after your safari.

If you are visiting the zoo with a smaller group or individually during operating hours, no reservation is required.  If you have a group of 20 or more paying guests, however, please call us ahead of time.  We have group discounts available and advance notice will help us plan our bus tours for the day of your visit.

The interaction moves to a whole new level as you board the Safari Bus for an adventure like no other!  It's a true reversal of the zoo concept--you're the one in the "cage" and the animals roam freely.  Some will pose perfectly for a picture while others will greet you at your open window.  You'll see why this zoo is said to be the most INTERACTIVE in Virginia.  You'll want to have your camera and your  "zoo chow" ready!
